A Breathable Solution for Old Buildings
Boost energy efficiency while preserving the building's traditional character and charm

The Benefits of Aerogel-lime Internal Wall Insulation
- Improved energy efficiency using lime-based breathable materials
- Low thickness, excellent thermal performance
- Enhanced thermal reflectance for greater comfort
- Effective humidity regulation, preventing condensation
- Complies with Listed Building and Building Control requirements
- Â
When upgrading the energy efficiency of old buildings with solid walls, internal wall insulation is often the only viable option due to restrictions on altering the building’s appearance. In such cases, a slim-profile conservation-friendly insulating system can be a game-changer.
The Challenge of Insulating Old Walls
Insulating old buildings with solid walls presents a unique challenge

Â
Moisture Resistance: Old walls are often exposed to wind-driven rain, rising damp, and condensation, which may require the insulation system to provide a certain level of moisture resistance.
Breathability: Trapping moisture behind non-breathable insulation can have side-effects, including more serious dampness problems, and mould growth.
Preserving Character: A lime-based insulation system that can adapt to the curved or uneven walls of an old building preserves traditional aesthetics and maintains the historical character of the structure.
Most modern insulation solutions fail to address these issues adequately. Materials like foam and plastic trap moisture, while traditional materials struggle meeting modern insulation standards.Â
Our solution to the above challenges is the Roman inspired Aerogel-Lime Internal Wall Insulation System.
Why Choose the Aerogel-Lime
Internal Wall Insulation System?
Ancient Roman architects demonstrated exceptional skill in adapting lime mortars to suit their intended purposes. Inspired by these principles, our lime mixes are optimised to maximise thermal performance by incorporating the best available insulation technologies.
THE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF:
1. Salt-Resistant Base Coat
Rinzaffo MGN:
- A breathable, salt-resistant lime plaster base coat.
- Converts liquid water into a controlled vapour flow.
- Protects the thermal plaster from salt and moisture damage, extending its lifespan by up to tenfold.
2. Thermal Insulation Plaster
- Termointonaco 2020 MGN: Lightweight, high performance insulating lime plaster perfect for thicker applications (up to 120 mm).
- Termorasante Aerogel MGN: A slim-profile, super-insulating lime plaster incorporating aerogel for exceptional insulation and thermal comfort.

3. Protective and Decorative Finish
- Rasacol MGN: A protective lime finish that enhances the mechanical resistance and durability of the insulating lime plaster system.
- Intonachino Arenino MGN (optional): A smooth Venetian decorative lime finish, available in 24 colours, offering luxurious Venetian aesthetics.
